The Master's University men's golf team turned in a strong season-opening tournament on Tuesday, carding a 13-under 275 in the final round to climb to a fourth-place finish at the Northwest Iowa National Invitational, hosted at Willow Creek Golf Club.
The Mustangs opened the 54-hole event even par through 18 holes before a 2-under second round set up Tuesday's final-day surge. TMU's 13-under closing round was the low team score of any squad in the 14-team field on the day, propelling the Mustangs from outside the top five into fourth at 15-under 273 (E-2-13) for the tournament.
Zeke Prociw paced the Mustangs individually, firing rounds of 69-75-67 for a 6-under total that tied for 11th in the 74-player field. Prociw's final-round 67 was among the low rounds of the day.
Wes Opliger backed him up, shooting an even-par 72 in the opener before closing 68-72 for a 4-under total that tied for 17th. Titus Johnson notched a 1-under total (74-74-67) to tie for 27th, while Isaiah Reddicopp finished even par for the event (73-70-73), good for a tie for 31st. Jacob Janho rounded out the TMU scoring at 2-over (74-75-69), tying for 42nd.
OUAZ ran away with the team title at 27-under, followed by Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) and Friends University. The Mustangs' fourth-place finish topped Marian (Ind.), Grand View, Texas Wesleyan and six other programs in the field.
TMU will compete next week at the OUAZ Fall Invite.
