Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 The Master's knew if they won their second game of the doubleheader against Arizona Christian Saturday they would be in the GSAC post-season tournament.
But the Firestorm has something to say about that.
The Mustangs lost both games of the doubleheader to ACU 19-3 and 17-2 Saturday at Lou Herwaldt Stadium. The Master's finish their GSAC season in sixth place at 8-16, one game out of the post-season.
In between the two games, The Master's honored the eight players and their families experiencing their final home conference game.
Davis Beavers,
Cason Brownell, J.T Friesen,
Miles Henderson,
Nolan Inouye, Robby Schardt,
Ethan Schmidt and
Adler Stout also got to throw out the ceremonial first pitch to their fathers.
"These seniors have demonstrated a love for Jesus Christ and a longing to emulate the Lord on and off the field," said TMU Head Coach
Monte Brooks. "They do all things heartily as unto the Lord, denying self and serving their teammates. It has been my privilege and joy to see them grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and to glorify the Lord with their talents through the sport of baseball."
Game 1
Scoring in every inning but two, ACU bombed four home runs and clubbed 21 base hits to win 19-3.
The bombs began in the first inning when two left the yard to score three for the Firestorm. The Mustangs answered those three with three of their own in the bottom of the second when
Cason Brownell doubled to left with the bases loaded, bringing all three in to knot the score at 3-3.
Then in the top of the third, a pair of singles added three more for ACU, which added another three in the fourth and another three in the fifth to make it 12-3.
In the top of the sixth, a 2-run home run was followed an inning later by a 3-run home run, and for good measure an RBI single in the eighth made it 19-3.
The Mustangs managed six hits, with
Miles Henderson getting two of those.
Game 2
Unfortunately for Mustangs fans, the second game of the doubleheader was a continuation of the first as the Firestorm defeated TMU 17-2 in seven innings.
The highlight of the game for The Master's came in the bottom of the fourth inning when
Ty Beck hit a 2-run home run to right, his ninth of the year.
But the Mustangs could not contain ACU's bats which hit four more home runs and totaled 20 hits in the second game.
The Master's will have a pair of non-conference games at Lou Herwaldt Stadium to close out their season next week. On Tuesday they welcome the Bethesda Flames and on Wednesday the University of La Verne Leopards. Both games start at 3 p.m.
"I'd like to see us give our seniors a couple of wins to close out the season," Brooks said.
