Box Score The Master's baseball team set a program record with nine home runs in a game, a record-tying four by Miles Henderson, as the Mustangs defeated the Jessup Warriors 23-13 Friday in Rocklin, Calif.

With the win, TMU (28-13) claims a spot in the upcoming five-team GSAC tournament that begins May 1 in Irvine, Calif..

The Mustangs scored 13 runs in the top of the first to get all the cushion they would need. TMU hit three home runs in a row during that first inning, starting off with a grand slam by Ryan Mathiesen, all before the first out was recorded. Ty Beck and Henderson followed with the solo shots.

All told the Mustangs hit five home runs in the inning, including two by Henderson, and banged out 11 hits. It was the second time this season TMU's offense scored 13 runs in one inning (April 1 vs. Menlo).

"What an amazing day. Offensively, we needed a day like that," said Head Coach Monte Brooks. "We took a great batting practice in pre-game and knowing this facility, we knew if we could do something like that it would put us in a good position and it did."

The Master's added three runs in the second, one in the sixth, three in the seventh, two in the eighth and one more in the ninth. Henderson's four home runs ties him with Andy Martin for the most in a single game. Martin hit his four bombs in a game back in 1992.

In addition to the grand slam, Mathiesen hit a solo shot in the seventh for his second of the game to give him nine on the season.

TMU's nine home runs in the game broke the previous single-game record of seven that was set twice (2017, 2021), ironically against Jessup University.

"We hit those balls hard," Brooks said. "Obviously the wind was blowing out, but we hit those balls hard."

Henderson finished the game 4-for-6 with six RBIs. Mathiesen was 4-for-5 with six RBIs as well. Beck was 3-for-5, Cason Brownell was 3-for-5, with both Will Batz and Tyler Grodell collecting two hits each.

Carson Knapp got the start on the bump for the Mustangs, going 6.1 innings, allowing eight earned runs on seven hits and striking out seven for his fifth win of the season. He was followed by Adler Stout, Nelson Schutte and Jojo Penberthy.

"Carson threw well," Brooks said. "He had his longest outing of the year and he threw well for us. So I'm really, really thankful."

These two teams will close out the 2023 regular season with a doubleheader on Saturday in Rocklin. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
