Box Score The Master's could muster just seven runs on seven hits over both games of Saturday's doubleheader, losing both to the Arizona Christian Firehawks 13-6 and 6-1 to get swept in the three-game series.
ACU banged out 22 hits over the two games, jumping out to early big leads in both games that proved too much for the Mustangs to overcome.
Game 1
The Master's baseball team fell behind by 11 before scoring their first run of the game, losing to the Arizona Christian Firestorm 13-6 in game one of the Saturday doubleheader In Glendale, Ariz.
The Mustangs put up three runs in the sixth inning, and another three in the ninth, but it was too little to overcome the Firestorm lead.
ACU scored two in the second, three in the third, one in the fourth and five in the fifth before TMU was able to get three runs in the top of the sixth inning. The Firestorm added two more in the bottom of the sixth to give them a 10-run lead.
Singles by
Evan Banks, and Ryan Mathieson, plus a sacrifice fly by
Miles Henderson, scored the three Mustang runs in the sixth inning. In the top of the ninth
Jackson Beck hit a solo home run, his first of the season, followed by an RBI by Banks and a throwing error that scored
Joshua Lee.
TMU had six hits in the game, led by Mathieson going 2-for-4 with the RBI. Banks had two RBIs in the game.
Carson Knapp took the loss, getting the start but throwing 2.0 innings, giving up three earned runs on four hits and striking out three. He was followed by J.T. Friesen,
Cale Mathison, Nelson Schuette and
Cade Walker.
Game 2
Once again the Firehawks jumped out to an early lead, scoring all six of their runs before the Mustangs were able to score on an error in the final inning.
What made it even more difficult for TMU is the team could only scratch out one hit in the game, a
Tyler Grodell single in the third inning. Grodell was the only base runner for the Mustangs until the seventh.
Aren Gustafson picked up the loss, pitching 5.0 innings and giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits and stroking out five.
Mason Madalinski logged an inning, giving up two unearned runs.
The Master's will return to Lou Herwaldt Stadium on Tuesday when they face the University of Saint Katherine in a non-conference game. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
