Box Score Despite scoring three runs in the top of the first inning off of two home runs, The Master's University baseball team lost 17-5 against the Arizona Christian Firestorm in the conference opener Friday night in Glendale, Arizona.
The Firestorm scored five runs in the second inning, one in the third, five more in the fifth and six in the sixth to blow the game wide-open and hand the Mustangs their third loss of the season.
ACU out-hit the Mustangs 17 to 9.
Ian Mortensen started on the hill, going 4.1 innings, giving up nine runs (eight earned) and struck out five. He was followed by
Ethan Schmidt,
William Gilbert and Jojo Penberthy, who gave up a combined eight runs on another eight hits.
Cade Walker and
Adler Stout pitched the final two innings, giving up no runs and just one hit.
The Master's (12-3, 0-1) scored their five runs on three home runs.
Austin Young and
Evan Banks got their dingers in the first inning,
Miles Henderson hit his two-run homer in the third.
Austin Young went 3-for-3 with two RBIs on the home run, and both
Miles Henderson and Ryan Mathieson went 2-for-4, with Henderson getting the two RBIs on his home run.
These same two teams will be back at it again on Saturday in a doubleheader with first pitch at 12 p.m. PT.
