The middle of the Mustang order got TMU out of a pickle Friday in a 7-5 win over the College of Idaho at the 4-Him Classic in Phoenix.
TMU's Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 5 hitters –
Aaron Shackelford,
Preston White,
Jaiden France and
Kameron Quitno – combined to go 9-for-14 at the plate with seven runs batted in, helping the Mustangs overcome five errors in the field.
With the score tied 3-3 in the fourth, White tripled down the left-field line to score Shackelford and open a lead the Mustangs never relinquished. Quitno followed with an RBI single later in the inning.
TMU ace
Robert Winslow earned the win on the mound, allowing three runs (all unearned) in four innings. He surrendered five hits, struck out six and walked one.
He found plenty of support.
Shackelford went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs. White was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and France was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Quitno was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Defensively, the Mustangs weren't as effective. An error in the second inning cost TMU two runs. Two errors in the third led to another run. The Mustangs got the bats going early, though, as France knocked in a pair in the first. And a Shackelford single plated another run in the second.Â
