ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Jack Anderson finished as the runner-up in the 5000m and Hunter Roy placed fifth in the 800m on the last day of the NAIA Track and Field championships on Friday in Asheville, N.C.

Anderson, who had won the NAIA cross country title in the fall, entered as one of the favorite to take the 5000m. Throughout the race, Anderson followed the lead pack but was out-kicked by Indiana Wesleyan's Trenton Sweet. Anderson finished with a time of 14:16, just one second behind the winner.

"The Lord gives and takes away, and I praise His name in both. I really wanted that national title, and it hurts to fall short of the expectation I have for myself," Anderson said. "But God is far greater than any result I could have achieved today and I give him all the glory for giving me the opportunity to offer my best to him."

Anderson closed his last lap in 58 seconds, as he was able to drop a high-quality field of NAIA talent. Emmanuel De Leon also competed in the 5000m, and he placed 18th. It was his final race as a Mustang.

Hunter Roy raced in the 800m final after setting a school record just 24 hours prior. He followed in pursuit of the leaders who opened their race with a blistering 50.6-second first lap, nearly world record pace. Roy was able to close hard and picked up an All-American award with a fifth-place finish. It was his highest finish at NAIA Nationals.

"I knew I was going to be fatigued coming off the 1:49 school record, but after completing 11 events at GSAC, I had the confidence that I could recover and race through the fatigue, allowing me to push for top-5 and an All-American." Roy said. "Althougher, this championship week was a great reminder to appreciate the durability the Lord has sustained me with all season."

Roy earns his fifth All-American award and Anderson got his seventh.
