The Master's University track and field teams find themselves in second place after the first two days of the GSAC championships on the campus of SOKA University on Friday in Aliso Viejo, Calif.
Despite having four conference individual champions on the first two days, the Mustang men trail Arizona Christian by 32.5 points, while the women are behind  by 75 points.
TMU got a great start with the men's throwing squad in the hammer and javelin on Thursday afternoon.
Dominic Grinceri and
Tommy Patton went 1-2 in the hammer throw, with Grinceri taking the win by over two meters. Their marks were the second and third best marks in The Master's history and got TMU 18 points early.
One of the strongest performances of Friday's action was freshman
Eli Duhm, who ran personal bests and top 10 marks in the 100m, 200m, pole vault and the 100m hurdles. Duhm also advanced to the finals of the 100m hurdles with his heat runner-up finish in 15.28.
The Lady Mustangs also got multiple athletes through the to finals, with Kailani Chisholm securing spots in both the 100m and the 200m. Michaela Fraley placed second in the pole vault and took home All-GSAC honors.
The women's 4x800m relay of Emma Nelson, Saige Miller, Clara Most and Suzie Johnson won the conference title by nearly 50 seconds. It was the Lady Mustangs' sixth 4x800m title in as many years. Johnson, Most and Miller also qualified for the 800m final and will run in the 1500m final on Saturday.Â
The 10000m closed out the day as the Mustangs walked away with two GSAC champs,
Jack Anderson for the men and Alyssa Lovett for the women. Anderson ran a relaxed race and closed in a 65-second final lap to take the win. He was followed by
Emmanuel De Leon in second, who picked up another All-GSAC award. Tim Anderson and
Bauer Hollman also picked up critical points for TMU in their battle with ACU.
Lovett won her race by nearly a whole minute and her mark of 37:13 puts her in position to qualify for NAIA nationals.
TMU will compete on Saturday as they look to close the gap on ACU and take home another GSAC team title.Â
