Master's men move up 3 spots, Ulibarri alone in 1st

LOMPOC, Calif. -- The Master's men's golf team moved up three spots to fourth after day two of the 2026 GSAC Golf Championships at the La Purisima Golf Club in Lompoc, Calif. Tuesday.

Hannah Ulibarri, tied for the lead of the women's championship after the first round, shot a 2-over 74 to grab a 9-shot advantage after 36 holes.

A steady rain greeted the players at the start of the day, and after an hour, play had to be halted due to standing water on the greens and fairways. After an hour-and-15-minute delay, play resumed.

"The delays obviously were an inconvenience, but just how the other teams were responding to having to play (in this rainy weather) was so negative," said TMU Head Coach Luke Brueckner. "With our team I didn't hear one negative comment the entire morning. It was just, 'Hey, tell me when to get ready and I'll be ready.' I think our team just focuses really well in tough conditions and we just proved that today."

The men's team shot 306, 19-over as a team and seven stokes better than their first round score, allowing them to move up the leaderboard more than any other team on day two of the 3-day tournament.

Jacob Janho fired a 3-over 75 in his second round to move up five spots to ninth.

The next four Mustangs are all tied at T20 in the individual standings, but have taken different paths to get there.

Wes Opliger took advantage of an eagle on the par-5 sixth hole to improve his score by eight strokes over round one. Opliger also fired a 3-over 75 in Tuesday's second round to move up 15 spots.

Freshman Charlie Pollock shot a 78, a 2-stroke improvement over round one to move up five spots, Seth Bishop once again shot a 7-over 79, and Rye Winans carded an 8-over 80.

"We know it's going to be a battle every round out here," Brueckner said. "(The Master's men's team) did a really great job getting four scores in the 70s, and the fact that our fifth score was an 80 is huge. The guys were grinding out there. Jacob started with a triple on the second hole, so he played even par for the final 16 holes is no small task. I'm really proud of him for staying in it all day."

The women's team has a solid hold on fourth place in the standings.

Behind Ulibarri's stellar second round, Halle Hagberg improved five strokes on her first round with an 82 to move up three spots to 15th.

Susan Tiffner improved four strokes to move up two spots to T18, and Reece Benjamin improved 11 strokes to hold down a T27.

"I think their choice of club, especially with the rain making the greens softer, allowed the players to hit higher shots and let them land close to the pin instead of expecting a roll up," said TMU Assistant Coach Nicole Lopez who was coaching the women's team. "That put them really close to the pin and they had a lot of really good putts. And if they didn't make the green they had some easier chips with a lot more spin which was super helpful. That made it easier to get a little bit closer to the hole."

The final round of the 54-hole championship will get underway at 8 a.m. Wednesday.
