11/15/2025 7:29:00 PM

Box Score The Master's women's basketball team held the University of Hawaii Hilo to just 43 points Saturday night.

The problem was the Lady Mustangs could only net 38.

In a defensive battle, The Master's women's basketball team fell to the Vulcans 43-38 at the Northstar Classic in Fairbanks, Alaska.

TMU (2-3) shot 12 of 50 (24%) from the floor and just 2 of 10 from behind the 3-point line. UHH didn't fare much better, hitting just 30% from the field but 5 of 12 from long range. The Vulcans also controlled the boards, pulling down 48 rebounds compared to Master's 34.

"Tough game," said TMU Head Coach Fonda Wilson. "Our first half was rough, and our shots didn't fall tonight. Overall our defense just wasn't enough. They were a good team but I think we beat ourselves tonight."

The first quarter was no indication of the defensive battle to come as the teams put up 30 shots in the first 10 minutes of action. The Vulcans edged the Mustangs 16-12 in the period.

Hawaii Hilo's pressure picked up in the second frame, limiting The Master's to just eight points to take a halftime lead of 30-20.

The second half is when the defense for the Lady Mustangs truly showed up, holding the Vulcans to just four points in the third quarter. It was the best defensive quarter of the year by far for TMU.

The problem was Master's was held to just nine, cutting into the UHH lead by five points to head to the fourth quarter down 34-29.

The Lady Mustangs' shooting woes continued in the final frame, hitting just 4 of 15 to equal the Vulcans' nine points and falling short at the final buzzer by five.

Bella Forker was the only TMU player in double figures with 11 points. Chloe Auble had seven while Alli VanKooten contributed four points but had a team-high 13 rebounds.

The Master's will finish off their Alaska trip on Sunday when they take on the host University of Alaska Fairbanks. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. PT.
