Box Score The Master's women's basketball team took it on the chin on the road in Montana, losing to the No. 2-ranked Providence (MT) Argos 84-71 Saturday night in Great Falls, Mont.
Both teams had similar shooting percentages, with the Lady Mustangs hitting 42% and the Argos 45%. But it was a 13-3 run by Providence between the end of the third quarter and start of the fourth that was the difference in the game.
"It was a tough game for us they were a great team and I feel we played great and stayed with them in the first half," said TMU Head Coach Fonda Wilson. "[But there was a] breakdown on defense as some starters got into foul trouble and the game started to slip away from us and we never got our footing back."
TMU (2-1) jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter, leading by as much as eight points on three
Nicole Chuang 3-pointers. But the Argos came back, taking the lead briefly before The Master's
Lexi Hernandez made a layup to close the first 10 minutes with TMU up 26-25.
Second period was much the same, with this time the Lady Mustangs going up by as much as nine points before the Argos closed out the first half on an 11-0 run to go to the locker room up 43-40.
The third period saw the teams battle back-and-forth until Providence went on a 10-0 run to go up by 11. The Master's was able to get it to within six before the 13-3 run from the third to the fourth period happened, putting the game into the hands of the Argos.
Chuang finished tying her career high with 26 points and added three assists. Hernandez had 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds, and
Marin Lenz tallied 12.
The Master's will set out on another road trip next weekend, this time heading to Tennessee for a Friday night game against Cumberland (TN) and a Saturday afternoon game against Freed-Hardeman (TN). Both game will be played in Henderson, Tenn. as part of the Freed-Hardeman Classic.
