Box Score Marin Lenz scored a career-high 33 points in The Master's 79-65 win over NCAA Division III Redlands University Thursday in Redlands, Calif.
Lenz hit 15 of 21 (71%) from the field, including 3 of 5 from behind the arc, for her career performance. As a team, the Lady Mustangs (8-1) shot 36 of 69 (52%) from the field, won the rebound battle (29-25) and forced 27 Bulldog turnovers.
"We had a great start to the game and then our intensity fell a bit flat," said TMU Head Coach Lisa Zamroz. "We had trouble hanging onto rebounds which gave them second chance opportunities in the paint."
TMU set the tone early in this game, jumping out to a 10-point lead by the end of the first quarter and settling for a 40-33 lead at the half. The Master's then duplicated their first quarter score in the third, 23-13, getting to a 19-point lead in the fourth quarter, before collecting the 14-point win.
"The third quarter was pivotal when we found a line up that clicked and had success with some full court pressure'" Zamroz said. "It's been so encouraging to have different people step up in any given game. Each night you're not sure who might be the spark we need. Many  different people have fulfilled that role so far this year."
Eight different players scored for TMU, with Belle Hernandez finishing behind Lenz with 10 points and six rebounds. Maddie Cooke led the Lady Mustangs with seven boards, though she only played 19 minutes after getting into early foul trouble.
For Lenz, her 33 points against Redlands brings her season average up to 19.2 points per game.
"Marin has been our motor this year," Zamroz said. "She's one of the hardest working kids I've ever been around. She's become an elite defender which often translates into layups. A true two-way player. I'm so proud of her growth both on and off the court."
The Master's now has eight days off before they next host Justice College (AZ), part of a double-header of basketball on Dec. 8 in The MacArthur Center. The women's game starts at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men at 7:30 p.m.
