TMU Track & Field perhaps had its best outdoor season opener in program history on Saturday at the CMS Rossi Relays.
Â
"It may have been the most dominant season opener we've ever had," Master's Head Coach
Zach Schroeder said. "We praise the Lord for giving us the strength to perform for His glory."
Â
Six program records were set, while
Micaiah Scott (women's javelin – 41.65 m) qualified for the NAIA National Championships for the second-straight season.
Â
Wesley Methum (men's 3K – 8:21.71),
Jayk Kelton (men's long jump – 6.26 m),
Josh Williamson (men's shot put – 13.98 m), Scott (women's shot put – 10.38 m),
Katie Boggess (women's discus – 14.92 m) and the women's distance medley relay (12:00.00) all set new program records.
Â
The women's DMR of
Arianna Ghiorso,
Seanna Nalbandyan,
Ellen Palmgren and
Hannah Fredericks won the meet, beating every other team by at least 26 seconds, as the quartet prepares for the upcoming NAIA Indoor Championships.
Â
After Methum placed third in the men's 3K, both
Davis Boggess (8:44.05) and
Carson Jefford (9:15.97) won their respective heats.
Â
Kelton finished in fourth place in the men's long jump, as did the men's 4x800 relay of
Andrew Cross,
Zach Garey,
Anthony Ghiorso and
Davis Boggess (7:49.11, just a second off the NAIA provisional qualifying standard).
Â
Sophie Southerden ran a personal best time in the women's 3K (10:14.56), which ranks fourth in program history, placing third in the fastest heat.
Autumn Nootbaar finished 10th in the sixth-fastest time in program history (10:29.43).
Â
Chatham Van Wingerden set a personal record in the men's high jump (1.78 m).
Â
Both outdoor teams will compete next at the Oxy Distance Carnival on March 12.
