TMU Beach Volleyball played its toughest opponents of the season on Saturday in NCAA Division I University of Oregon and CSUN. Despite losing both matches by 5-0 margins, the Mustangs took multiple matchups to a deciding third set.

"I am extremely proud of how many of the girls stepped up their play against their opponents today and how we showed the love of Christ as well," Master's Head Coach Annett Davis said.

In the first match against Oregon, TMU's number two duo of Kasie Spencer and Evi Yates rebounded from losing the first set 18-21 by winning the second stanza 23-21, before losing the final set 9-15.

"Our 2's played a strategic match, taking Oregon to three sets," Davis said. "Kasie Spencer had some amazing digs and some well-placed cut shots that made it difficult for U of O to defend."

Then in the second match of the day against CSUN, TMU's top pairing of Chloe Johnson and Kassidy Wilson (19-21, 21-14, 6-15) and fifth duo of CJ Catabona and Gwen Garate (21-16, 16-21, 12-15) both extended their matchups to a third set.

"CJ Catabaona had a strong showing versus CSUN," Davis said. "Her leadership helped push their match to a third set, which they almost won."

Master's (5-3 overall) returns to Golden State Athletic Conference play on Friday and Saturday in Huntington Beach with four matches scheduled.
