The Master's Beach Volleyball Head Coach
Annett Davis has been inducted into the Southern California Indoor Volleyball Hall of Fame.
During a ceremony held in Anaheim, Calif. on May 3, Annett Buckner Davis was one of three honored by the organization. Previous inductees are some of the biggest names in the indoor volleyball world.
"There are so many talented people that come from Southern California, and to be thought of as one of the greats is a true honor," Davis said. "This Hall of Fame had so many people that have helped me in the past and others that I have admired from afar. It was ultimately not just about recognizing the past—it was also about us investing in the future. This is why I coach, and why I am thankful to do it at a place that makes it All about Jesus, where I can pour into my team and teach how to honor the Lord mentally, physically, and most importantly spiritually. So, though I am truly humbled and honored by the award, the ultimate reward is eternity with Him. I'm thankful for all He's given me."
In high school at St. Anthony in Long Beach, Calif., Davis was named the national player of the year. She went on to be an All-American at UCLA, was named the Pac-10 Player of the Year in 1994, and led the Bruins to the NCAA Division I championship match. She then played professionally in Greece before making the switch to beach volleyball, where she and her partner Jenny Johnson finished fifth in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Together the pair played professionally on the AVP Tour, winning 11 titles.
Davis was also inducted into the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame in 2015 and the California Beach Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2022.
"It's an honor to have someone like Annett on the coaching staff of The Master's University," said The Master's Athletic Director Jim Rickard. "She's a legend outside of the university and she's a legend inside the university. She's a Godly woman who loves her players and tries to affect them for the gospel of Christ and to be an example to the community in the world in beach volleyball. We're thankful for her and grateful that she's a part of our team."
This past season, Davis finished her seventh season as The Master's beach volleyball head coach, led the team to its highest national ranking (No. 2), and was named the
GSAC Coach of the Year. The Sandy Stangs competed in their second consecutive
NAIA National Championship tournament appearance, reaching the quarterfinals after getting to the semifinals this previous year.
