No. 6 TMU Beach Volleyball picked up two more Golden State Athletic Conference wins on Saturday to improve to 3-0 on the season for the first time in program history.
The Mustangs defeated both (RV) Hope International and (RV) San Diego Christian by 3-2 margins in neutral-site matches in Arizona.
"We had two strong wins today," Master's Head Coach
Annett Davis said. "
CJ Catabona and
Zoe Kira had a strong weekend, winning all of their matches and being the clutch team each time for us."
In TMU's season opener on Friday, Catabona and Kira won the deciding match at number five to lift the Mustangs over No. 10 Arizona Christian.
Then on Saturday, the duo won against HIU (21-12, 21-11) before scoring TMU's third point in the match against SDCC (20-22, 22-20, 16-14) to clinch the program's best-ever start to a season.
In Saturday's first match versus Hope,
Kasie Spencer and
Evi Yates won at number two (21-17, 21-13) before
Tara Long and
Kaylie Phelps won the deciding game at number three (21-18, 19-21, 15-10).
Then in the later match against San Diego Christian,
Emilye Grace Williams and
Annika Booker won their matchup at number four (21-15, 21-16) before
Chloe Johnson and
Kassidy Wilson claimed victory at number one in three sets (21-18, 19-21, 15-9).
"Tara and Emilye Grace were strong presences at the net," Davis said. "They were a huge blocking presence and had some big hits.
"Chloe and Kassidy got their first win in our one's spot. They really worked out some details in their game. I am looking forward to seeing them grow."
Master's will put its unbeaten start to the season to the test on Feb. 19 with a doubleheader at OC Great Park against fifth-ranked University of Saint Katherine (noon) and NCAA Division II Concordia University Irvine (2 p.m.).
