TMU Men's and Women's Cross Country, both ranked in the top-11 of the NAIA, have had strong starts to their 2021 seasons.
Â
A big reason for that is the performances from
Daniel Rush and
Hannah Fredericks, both of whom were honored on Wednesday as Golden State Athletic Conference Cross Country Athletes of the Month.
Â
Rush, a reigning All-GSAC honoree last season, was the fastest Mustang at the Mark Covert Classic, placing seventh. He then finished 18th at the Biola Invitational before crossing the line in fifth at the TMU XC Invitational, helping Master's win the meet and post the third-best team time in the event's history.
Â
In the first three races of her collegiate career, Fredericks has placed second in two of them. She has finished as the top Mustang in all three, improving her 5K time by at least 36 seconds each time.
Â
Fredericks began her TMU career with a 13th-placed finish at the Mark Covert Classic, beating a host of NCAA Division I and II runners. She then finished second as the top collegiate runner at the Biola Invitational before once again placing second, at the TMU XC Invitational on Saturday.
Â
Both Mustang squads return to competition on Oct. 8 at the Vanguard Invitational at Mile Square Regional Park in Fountain Valley.
