Sophomore Katherine Dyer and freshman Megan Sutanto each won two events and junior Dylan Crane added a win of his own Friday night as The Master's University swimming teams competed against CSU Bakersfield at the John S. Hillman Memorial Aquatic Center. The Roadrunners won the women's meet 165-77 and the men's meet 183-60.
Dyer won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:52.99, finishing more than three seconds ahead of the field. She later took the 200 IM in 2:08.70, holding off Bakersfield's Gigi Munoz-Rodriguez by 0.36 seconds. Dyer nearly added a third win in the 500 free, placing second in 5:04.21, just 0.31 seconds behind the winner.
Sutanto swept the sprint freestyles, winning the 50 free in 24.25 and the 100 free in 52.12, where she edged Munoz-Rodriguez by 0.15 seconds. She also placed third in the 50 butterfly (26.38).
The team of Clara Patterson, Dyer, Sutanto and Isabella Hiner finished second in the 200 free relay in 1:39.49. Patterson added a runner-up finish in the 50 backstroke (27.85), and Riley Weikel took third in the 100 butterfly (59.02).
For the men, Crane touched in 1:42.77 in the 200 free, beating Bakersfield's David Gracia (1:42.93) by 0.16 seconds. He added a second-place finish in the 50 free (22.28) and a third in the 100 free (48.42). Crane also led off the 200 free relay in 21.86, and the team of Crane, Keiden Sutanto, Blake Van Vooren and Tobin Carpenter placed second in 1:29.18, edging Bakersfield's B relay.
Freshman Ethan Soni finished second in the 50 backstroke (25.38), with Kaden Danninger third (25.60). Grant Wong placed second in the 50 butterfly (24.54), and Carpenter took third in the 50 breaststroke (27.82) and fourth in the 100 breast (1:02.01). Van Vooren finished fourth in both the 500 free (4:51.00) and the 100 free (49.02).
TMU competes next at the Rodionoff Invitational on October 9-10 in Malibu, Calif.
