The Master's University women's volleyball earned their first win of the season with a 3-2 victory over Southern Oregon on Friday in Fullerton, Calif.

This game was the second game on the day for the Lady Mustangs and they were able to beat a Red Hawks team that was ranked No. 22 in the NAIA Preseason Poll. 

In the first set, the score remained close throughout until a key 4-0 TMU run to take a 17-14 lead. A block from McKenna Brady and Macy Gebhards capped off the run and gave TMU their largest lead of the set. Master's ended up taking the first set 25-18 on a 3-0 run.

Southern Oregon won the second set by a close margin of 25-21. TMU had a 5-0 run in the middle of the set, with Kinsley Kollmann recording two blocks and one kill during that span. A Red Hawk service ace tied the game and one a piece.

"I'm excited that we were able to finish that match with a win, and I was proud of the adjustments that we made in order to do so," TMU Head Coach McKenna Hafner said. "Kinsley Kollmann had an incredible game and we're excited for tomorrow where we got another good couple of matchups."

TMU was hot to start the third set, with four straight points. However, SOU was able to tie the game a 9-9. Right after the 9-9 mark, TMU was able to score seven points in a row to take control. Another 4-0 run, this one capped off by a kill by Chloe Grever, gave TMU the set win. 

The fourth set was back-and-forth, with Master's opening up an 8-4 advantage early. Southern Oregon then responded with a run of their own to take back the lead at 12-10 and 15-11. But a Lady Mustangs put together a 7-2 run to take the lead back, off a kill from Isabella Amet. With the score tied at 24-24, TMU had the opportunity to take the win, but back-to-back points from the Red Hawks sent the game to a decisive fifth set.

TMU jumped out to the lead in the final set with two kills from Grever putting them up 6-1. SOU responded to draw within two points but a kill from Kollmann slammed the door on a Southern Oregon come back and secured TMU's first win on the year.

Kollmann racked up 17 kills to lead the team and six blocks, while Grever totaled 14 kills and seven total blocks. Junior setter Kate Wagner dished out 46 assists on the night as well.

TMU will be back in action tomorrow against The College of Idaho and Simpson at 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., respectively.
