ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Brooke Cregan extended her season by one more race by making the 3000m steeplechase final and Alyssa Lovett ran her last race as a Lady Mustang on Thursday on Day 2 of the NAIA Track and Field Championships in Asheville, N.C.

In day of competition filled with more rain delays, Cregan got the day started by racing in her steeplechase heat, which was original set for the night before. She finished with a time of 11:28 in 13th place overall, and earned one of the two time qualifiers out of the second prelim.

"Brooke ran hard for the entire race to make it to the final and extend her career one more race," TMU Head Coach Daniel Rush said. "She was on the bubble to qualify and closed hard to secure her spot in the final, where she is ready to be competitive."

Cregan's final race as a Lady Mustang will be at 11:30 a.m. PDT on Friday, as she looks to earn her first All-American award.

Alyssa Lovett was one of the other Lady Mustangs who was due to race on Wednesday night, but had to adapt due to the ever-changing schedule. She raced in the 10000m final and took 14th place in 38:05.

"Alyssa also ran tough in her third 10k in the past month." Coach Rush said. "She moved up throughout the race and closed very hard to finish her career with her highest ever outdoor finish."

Lovett, who has been a consistent NAIA Nationals qualifier over her four years at TMU, closes the book on a strong career with the Lady Mustangs.

"It wasn't my best race ever, but I felt The Lord's delight while racing and that's the aim," Lovett said. "If I have done what is pleasing in His sight, than I am satisfied with the result because I really am running for an audience of one"

On the final day of competition, Cregan and Suzie Johnson, who qualified for the 1500m final on Wednesday, will toe the line.
