Isaac Igo and
Jace Davis both totaled a career-high in kills as The Master's University men's volleyball team swept Soka University of America on the road on Tuesday in Aliso Viejo, Calif.
The win clinched TMU the GSAC regular season title and was their fourth straight sweep.
Davis also had three blocks as TMU started a number young players and gave their normal starters a rest day.
"Tonight we got to play a lot of guys who don't normally get to start," TMU Head Coach
Jared Goldberg said. "They did a pretty good job of competing hard and controlling the match all the way through."
The Master's got out strong, extending a 12-6 lead out of the gate.
Grant Foster had four kills in the set and
Cooper Saelzler also had four kills. Saelzler finished the set with back-to-back service aces to win the set for the Mustangs.
In the second set, TMU again jumped on Soka, leading 10-4 off a
Grant Foster service ace. His brother,
Garret Foster, also got in on the action, totaling a career-best three kills in the match, with one ace and two blocks for the junior. The Master's won the second set on another kill from Igo.
In the final frame, the score remained close, with TMU only leading by three at 11-8.
Brayden Darm helped lead the offense, with a career-best 12 assists. He also notched his first kill in his young Mustang career. TMU continued to apply pressure and closed the set on a 5-2 run, capped by a kill and a block by Davis, who finished with 11 kills.
Igo had 10 kills and
Gio Baltazar had six digs. The Master's hit .471 overall and held Soka to just a .028 hitting percentage. TMU finished with five blocks and six aces in the 3-set win.
The Master's will travel to Glendale, Ariz. this Friday to take on Arizona Christian University before traveling to take on OUAZ on Saturday in Suprise, Ariz.
