Box Score In the penultimate match of the 2026 regular season, The Master's men's volleyball team defeated Arizona Christian in three sets 25-21, 25-20, 26-24 in Glendale, Ariz. Friday.
The win marked the 47th consecutive victory for the team, tying the record set by UCLA twice from Jan. 14, 1979 to March 1, 1980, and from April 20, 1983 to Jan. 19, 1985, for most consecutive wins by a men's collegiate volleyball team.
The Mustangs last lost on May 4, 2024, in the NAIA National Championship match against Georgetown (KY).
The win also clinches TMU's third consecutive GSAC regular season championship.
Master's (20-0, 13-0) broke open the first set after it was tied at 3-3. TMU went on a 13-3 run to open up a 10-point lead. The lead blossomed to 20-8 and it seemed the set was in control. But the Firestorm showed they were going to compete, going on a 13-4 run themselves, before an attack error gave the Mustangs the 4-point win.
After a back-and-forth start to the second set and the score tied at 7-7, TMU went on an 8-2 run to open up a 15-9 lead. And while the Firestorm did get to within three on a couple occasions, the Mustangs pulled away to take the second set by five.
The third set proved tougher as Arizona Christian took a slim lead and never let the Mustangs go on a run. ACU was able to get a 15-12 lead, only to see TMU come back and tie it 15-15. The two teams traded points before the Firestorm edged their way to a 22-20 lead.
But kills from
Trace Oswald,
Garrett Beall and
Isaac Seltzer, sandwiched around a
Matthew Hamm ace and a couple of Firestorm attack errors, propelled the Mustangs to a 26-24 set win to claim the match.
"It was good for our team to get pushed tonight," said TMU Head Coach
Jared Goldberg. "ACU is a really disciplined team that forces you to earn a lot of points. We haven't had a ton of those types of matches lately and it was great for our guys to feel that pressure and have to earn points to win some tight sets."
Seltzer finished with a team-high 18 kills and passed
Braden Van Groningen as the all-time kills leader in TMU program history.
Oswald finished with 12 kills while Hamm dished 36 assists and added three blocks.
Ezra Vlad also added three blocks.
Now The Master's will close out the 2026 regular season in Surprise, Ariz. Saturday when they take on the OUAZ Spirit. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
