Mustangs fall to OUAZ

4/11/2026 3:26:00 PM

Box Score The streak is over.

After tying UCLA's 46-year-old record of 47 consecutive wins in men's collegiate volleyball, The Master's lost their final regular season match of 2026 in five sets to the OUAZ Spirit.

The No. 11-ranked Spirit won the first set 21-25, TMU won the next two 25-15, 25-23, but lost the last two 21-25, 13-15.

It was the first time the No. 1-ranked Mustangs had a match go five sets all season, and it was the first time the team lost the first set of a match.

The pivotal set turned out to be the fourth.

After Master's (20-1, 13-1) dropped the first set but stormed back to claim sets two and three in dominant fashion, it was OUAZ that turned the table in the fourth set by going on a 6-1 run after the score was tied at 3-3. That 9-4 lead grew to a 16-9 advantage moments later, and while the Mustangs climbed back to within three at 21-18, the teams then traded points, enabling the Spirit to claim the 4-point win and tie the match at 2-2.

OUAZ then rode that momentum into the decisive fifth, opening up a 6-3 lead and forcing the Mustangs to play catch up.

And Master's almost did, getting to within a point at 14-13, but a service error gave the match to the Spirit.

Isaac Seltzer finished with a career-high 23 kills followed by Trace Oswald with 10 kills and a team-high three aces. Garrett Beall tied his career high with eight blocks while setter Matthew Hamm had 40 assists

"Ottawa competed really well," said TMU Head Coach Jared Goldberg. "We are looking forward to competing again next week at home."

The Master's claimed the GSAC regular season championship Friday night with their win over Arizona Christian. So now the team will focus on the post-season starting this Tuesday when the No. 1-seeded Mustang's will host the No. 4-seed Firestorm in The MacArthur Center in the semifinals of the GSAC Championship tournament.

A win over ACU will possibly bring a re-match against OUAZ next Saturday in the Mustangs' home facility.
