The Master's splits on the diamond with La Sierra on Senior Day

The Master's University baseball team split a doubleheader with La Sierra Univeristy on Senior Day at home, winning the opener by a score of 4-1 and falling in the second game 12-8 on Friday.

Game 1
The opening game was a low-scoring pitchers' duel for the majority of its nine innings, with James Coker on the bump for the Mustangs. Coker threw a gem in his final start at home, going seven innings, giving up one run and striking out nine opposing batters, while walking none. Jace Russell took over on the mound and threw a pair of scoreless innings, with all six outs coming via the punch out to take the save.

Offensively, The Master's was led by Emilio Morales who crushed two solo homers en route to a 3-hit, 2-RBI day for the senior catcher. Scotty Pieper and Isaiah Morales both added sacrifices to give Coker the lead and Russell enough of a cushion to take home the win.

Cole Rohlmeier had a double and scored a run as well. TMU's staff fanned 15 total batters in one of their strongest outings of the season.

Game 2
Both teams' bats woke up in the following game, as TMU put up a crooked five runs in the bottom of the second. Jack Drew hammered another Mustang homer, this one being a 2-run blast. He was followed by a base knock from Rohlmeier to score one run. Ty Beck then laced a 2-run double, which gave TMU their largest lead at 5-0.

La Sierra responded in the third, retaliating for six runs of their own and chasing TMU starter Luke Scott from the game. However, with the bases loaded, Emilio Morales reached on an error, and brought home two runs, as TMU took the 8-6 lead entering the final inning.

But La Sierra was not done yet, and through multiple substitutions and clutch hits, the Golden Eagles put up another 6-spot in the final inning, as TMU couldn't close the gap in the bottom of the seventh.

Blake Russell had three hits on three trips and Emilio Morales drove home two more runs.

TMU will travel on the road to OUAZ next week in Suprise, Ariz., as TMU Head Coach Monte Brooks looks to grab his 900th win, needing just one victory to do so.
