Garrett Beall had a career-high eight blocks to lead The Master's University's men's volleyball team to a 3-set win over the La Sierra Golden Eagles in Riverside, Calif. Wednesday.
The Mustangs (18-0, 11-0) hit .337 while holding the Golden Eagles to a .000 attack percentage in the 25-16, 25-19, 25-17 win.
"I think the match went pretty well," said TMU Head Coach
Jared Goldberg. "It's always good to win in three. But there's still some things we need to clean up as we get to the end of the season and get ready for the post-season both in GSAC and at nationals. But I like the way Garrett (Beall) played tonight. He was pretty efficient, so it was good."
Beall also had a career-high 10 kills on 12 total attacks (.833) and did not commit a hitting error.
TMU had the advantage in kills (41-23) and blocks (13-7), and also had the only ace of the night.
After a service error by Master's tied the first set at 5-5, the Mustangs went on a 9-2 run to go up 14-7. They led by as much as 10 before taking the 8-point set win.
The Master's jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead and looked to be in control of the second set. But the teams basically traded points the rest of the set to give TMU a 2-0 lead.
Again the Mustangs jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead to start the third, only this time the team steadily expanded the lead. The Golden Eagles got to within a point at 9-8, but Master's went on a 7-1 run to go up by seven. Kills by
Isaac Seltzer and
Trace Oswald finished off the match for the Mustangs' 13th 3-set sweep of the season.
Oswald led the team with 13 kills while
Matthew Hamm dished 35 assists.
The Master's will next play Tuesday when they travel to Aliso Viejo, Calif. to play Soka University. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
