The Master's University men's basketball team scored 24 runs in two games, as TMU beat Benedictine Mesa twice, by a score of 16-13 and 8-3, in a doubleheader on Saturday in Apache Junction, Ariz.
The Mustang offense was hot from the jump in the first game, as they pounced on the Redhawks for eight runs in the first three innings.
TMU used singles from
Zach Jenkins,
Emilio Morales and the GSAC's leading hitter,
Isaiah Morales to score the first four runs of the ballgame. BenU responded with seven runs in the bottom of the second inning to take back the lead.
In a game filled with scoring, TMU found themselves down by three in the seventh inning, trailing 13-10. But the Mustangs rallied, as
Scotty Pieper drove home one run, and after an RBI groundout from Jenkins,
Dylan Taguiam ripped a 2-run single to give TMU the lead.
Cole Rohlmeier and
Blake Russell both added insurance runs with their RBI hits, as The Master's took the first game.
Taguiam drove in four runs, while Russell had three hits, a walk and two RBIs.
Luke Scott closed out the game with four scoreless innings to take the win.
In the second game, TMU gave the ball to their ace,
Gage Webster, to close out the series. He went all seven innings, giving up three runs in a quality start. Webster allowed six hits and just one walk, while getting two strikeouts.
Jack Drew blasted a first-inning 3-run shot to kick-start the offense but
Emilio Morales led the charge, with two solo homers in the game. Morales now has six home runs in his last eight games.
Russell continued his strong day with another RBI knock.
Cooper Carter also had two hits and drove in a run.
TMU will travel on the road to take on Westcliff University on Tuesday. They will play two games, including the end of Jan 24's contest which was halted due to darkness in the top of the 7th with The Master's leading 3-2.
