In a match that saw several pairs go to three sets, The Master's beach volleyball team defeated No. 6 Hope International 3-2 Friday in Huntington Beach.
It was the fifth win in a row for the No. 3-ranked Sandy Stangs (14-6, 11-2).
Four of the five pairs matches went to a third set, with The Master's 1s pair of
Emma Winter and
Zoe Yates getting a 23-21, 14-21, 15-10 win.
Perhaps the most dramatic match came in the 3s pair. TMU's
Addy Brock and
Abbie Unruh had to come from behind to win their match. The pair lost the first set 10-21, but came back to get set two 21-15 and the third 15-11.
Isabela Rodriguez and
Ashlan Van Groningen had the only easy time in their match, winning the 2s 21-8, 21-12.
"It definitely wasn't our best performance," said TMU Head Coach
Annett Davis. "Hope was hungry because it was their senior day. But thankfully we pulled through with some tight 3-set match wins."
The Master's has just one match left in the regular season when they host Life Pacific Tuesday on the TMU Beach Volleyball Courts. It will be Senior Day, with festivities starting before the 2:30 p.m. first serve.
