The Master's University men's volleyball team celebrated Head Coach
Jared Goldberg's 100th career win as TMU beat La Sierra in three sets in The MacArthur Center on Thursday.
It was TMU's ninth sweep this season, as
Preston Schmidt became TMU's all-time leader in digs, passing former Mustang All-American
Diego Perez.
Isaac Seltzer and
Trace Oswald combined for 33 of TMU's 46 kills and the Mustangs totaled four blocks and four aces.
The first set was close, but TMU held the lead for the majority of the set. They held their largest lead at 14-8 and 17-11 until a 3-0 run by The Master's closed out the set.
Graysen Amestoy clinched the set win with a service ace.
"Oswald and Seltzer did a good job leading the offense for us," Coach Goldberg said. "But there are still areas where we can improve for later in the season."
LSU battled in the second set, tying the score at 11-11 and trailing by just three at 19-16. But once again, TMU dominated the final stages of the set, scoring six of the last nine points, winning the set on one of Seltzer's 20 kills.
The Mustangs were still in a tight contest with the Eagles in the final set, as the score was tied five times over the course of the frame. However TMU went on a 3-0 run at the 11-11 mark, to give themselves a little breathing room. The Master's closed out the set on a 5-1 run, including blocks from
Isaac Igo and kills from Oswald and Seltzer, to take the win.
Matthew Hamm had 33 assists and Schmidt had six digs as he moved into first all-time in school history.
The Master's will be back in action on the road to take on Hope International University on Saturday in Fullerton, Calif.
