Mustangs continue streak with win over Royals

The Master's men's volleyball team has now 41 in a row after defeating the Hope International Royals in straight sets Saturday in Fullerton, Calif.

After playing a less than stellar match Thursday night in a 3-set win over La Sierra, the Mustangs (14-0, 7-0) hit .472 against the Royals with 44 kills in the three sets.

"We played a bit better as the match went on," said TMU Head Coach Jared Goldberg. "We are still working on progressing in some of the details in our defensive systems."

The Master's needed extra work in the first set to get the 26-24 win, then settled in the a better rhythm to get the next two 25-18 and 25-15.

TMU held HIU to just 24 kills and a .197 hitting percentage. Master's also won the service (7-4 in aces) as well as the advantage in blocks (4-2).

Both Isaac Seltzer and Trace Oswald lad the attack with 15 kills each. Matthew Hamm dished 36 assists with both Ezra Vlad and Andrew Karges getting a pair of blocks each. Preston Schmidt extended his program record all-time digs mark to 560 as he had eight against the Royals.

The Master's will next play in The MacArthur Center on Friday as they host the Park-Gilbert Buccaneers at 6 p.m. That match will be the start of a 6-day period with very little time off.

"Looking forward to the challenge coming ahead of a 4-game stretch in six days next week," Coach Goldberg said.
