With temperatures peaking at 83 degrees in Huntington Beach, Calif., The Master's beach volleyball team stayed just as hot with a 5-0 win over No. 9 Benedictine Mesa Thursday.
Playing during the hottest part of the day, the No. 3-ranked Sandy Stangs (11-6, 8-2) were able to complete the sweep over the Redhawks.
But it didn't come without effort.
Three of the five pairs had to go to an extra set to get their matches finished.
The 1s pair of
Emma Winters and
Zoe Yates won 21-14, 16-21, 15-11, as the 2s pair of
Isabela Rodriguez and
Ashlan Van Groningen won their match 21-19, 21-23, 15-12.
The 5s pair of
Arianna DeRaffaele and
Kayla Goodwin won 21-14, 14-21, 15-10.
"The weather at Huntington has been beautiful. Perfect for beach volleyball," said TMU Head Coach
Annett Davis. "I think the three sets with some of our pairs came from a small lapse of focus and execution. Thankfully they all regained that and locked in for the sweep."
The Master's will have one more match in Huntington Beach as they will play Park-Gilbert Friday morning at 9 a.m.
