The Master's beach volleyball team took a loss to No. 1 OUAZ 1-4 Wednesday morning, but bounced back in the afternoon to get a 3-2 win over Arizona Christian.
The lone win against the Spirit came from the 2s pair of
Isabela Rodriguez and
Ashlan Van Groningen with a 21-19, 21-14 victory.
TMU's 1s pair of
Emma Winter and
Zoe Yates had a very competitive 3-set match, falling 24-22, 22-24, 11-15.
"Our 1s and 2s played a tight tough match vs OUAZ," said TMU Head Coach
Annett Davis. "They showed a lot of grit."
Against the Firestorm, the No. 3-ranked Sandy Stangs (10-6, 7-2) got wins from Rodriguez/Van Groningen, a 3-set win for the 4s pair of
Krista Brady and
Macy Gebhards, and a thrilling 3-set win from the 5s of
Kayla Goodwin and
Arianna DeRaffaele.
"We had a hard fought win versus ACU," Davis said. "It was very tough. Thankfully our 5s, after a short injury timeout, were resilient."
Two more days of beach competition lay ahead on the courts at Huntington Beach as Thursday The Master's will face No. 10 Benedictine Mesa at 1 p.m., while Friday they take on Park-Gilbert at 9 a.m.
