The Master's University beach volleyball team played two matches on Saturday, winning the first over Vanguard University and losing the second to CUI in Irvine, Calif.
TMU defeated Vanguard by a score of 3-2 and was swept by the Golden Eagles, losing 5-0.
In the first game, the 1s pair of
Zoe Yates found themselves in a tough battle with the top pair from Vanguard. The match ended up going three sets, with TMU losing by three in the final set.
However, TMU got a much-needed win from their 2s pair of Ashlan Van Gronigen and
Isabela Rodriguez, who came from behind to win in three sets, 17-21, 21-12, 15-13.
Despite a loss in the battle of the 3s, TMU's 4s pair and 5s pair both secured wins to give them the team win. The freshman duo and 4s pair of
Krista Brady and
Macy Gebhards took home a 21-16, 21-13 win. The 5s pair of
Kayla Goodwin and
Arianna DeRaffaele earned the clinching win by a score of 21-19, 16-21, 15-12.
In their second game, TMU fell to CUI 5-0. The closest they would get to winning a set would be from Gebhards and Brady who lost both sets by a score of 19-21.
TMU will play next against No. 1 OUAZ and RV Arizona Christian on Wednesday in Huntington Beach, Calif.
