The Master's University women's soccer team came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw at NAIA No. 5 Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) on Saturday afternoon, keeping the Mustangs unbeaten in GSAC play at 5-0-1 and moving them to 7-1-2 overall.
The Eagles struck early, with Jamie Brandon scoring in the second minute. From there, TMU goalkeeper Katie Snow kept the LadyMustangs in the match. Embry-Riddle outshot TMU 13-7 in the first half, and Snow turned away a series of chances from ERAUÂ to hold the deficit at one going into the break.
The Lady Mustangs found their equalizer in the 63rd minute. Siennah Nelson finished the goal, her third of the season, just seconds after Breanna Fajardo's shot was saved by Embry-Riddle goalkeeper Maile Kahele. Embry-Riddle was a perfect 9-0-2 after the draw, and the Lady Mustangs were the only team to hold the Eagles to a single goal in the match.
Maddy Traylor was the Lady Mustangs' most active attacker, putting four of her six shots on goal and forcing Kahele into several saves. Autumn Heeb, Bryanna Elias and Fajardo each added a shot on goal.
Embry-Riddle finished with a 23-12 edge in shots, 10-8 in shots on goal and 7-5 in corner kicks. The Lady Mustangs were whistled for nine fouls to the Eagles' five, and neither team received a caution. Snow played all 90 minutes in goal and finished with eight saves.
The result keeps TMU in the GSAC title race as the Lady Mustangs head to La Sierra on Oct. 8 before returning home to host Soka on Oct. 10 at Reese Field.
