Kollmann leads TMU to 4-set win over OUAZ

The Master's University women's volleyball team won a back-and-forth battle with Ottawa University Arizona on Thursday night, taking down the Spirit 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-17, 25-17) to improve to 12-5 overall and 8-1 in GSAC play.

In their previous match, it was the Spirit who had gotten the better of TMU, but the Lady Mustangs came out strong, leading 10-3 early and dominating the first set. OUAZ tied the game with a set win, but TMU was able to pull away in sets three and four thanks to a strong offensive effort.

Junior Kinsley Kollmann led the Mustangs with a career-high 23 kills, hitting .288 on the night, while Macy Gebhards added 14 kills and Chloe Grever chipped in 13 kills on a blistering .522 clip. Grever also paced the defense at the net with eight total blocks, while Macy Gebhards and Kinsley Kollmann each tallied a pair of blocks of their own.

Setter Kate Wagner ran the offense with 54 assists, and Sierra Hale anchored the back row with a match-high 29 digs. Krista Brady added 21 digs and Colette Collins chipped in 18 to round out the TMU back row.

TMU out-hit OUAZ .311 to .144 as a team and finished with a decisive 16-6 edge in total blocks and a 68-48 advantage in kills. The Mustangs cruised through a dominant opening set, dropped the second after trailing much of the way, then regrouped to close out the third and fourth sets comfortably, never trailing by more than a point down the stretch in either.

Delaney Wilson led OUAZ with 12 kills, and Norma Ramirez-Barba and Isabella Foutz each dished out 18 assists in the setting duo, with Myra Memon pacing the Spirit defensively with 22 digs.

The win extends the Mustangs' hold on first place in the GSAC standings as they continue conference play looking to keep pace atop the league.
