Hale’s 14-Point Serving Run Helps TMU Sweep ACU

The No. 17 Master's University women's volleyball team swept Arizona Christian 3-0 (25-10, 25-13, 25-8) Friday night at The MacArthur Center. It was the Lady Mustangs' ninth straight win, and Sierra Hale opened the third set by serving 14 consecutive points.

With the win, TMU improves to 13-5 overall and 9-1 in GSAC play, stays unbeaten at home (6-0), and completes a season sweep of the Firestorm after a 3-1 win in Glendale on Sept. 5. Arizona Christian falls to 9-7 and 4-5 in conference.

Kinsley Kollmann led the attack again with a match-high 15 kills on .429 hitting. The Mustangs as a team hit .378 and held the Firestorm to -.033. Arizona Christian finished below zero in two of the three sets. TMU also had more aces (11-1), digs (51-31) and blocks (6-4).

Arizona Christian stayed close early in the first set and tied it 4-4 on a Haley Kootstra kill. Chloe Grever then went to the service line, and the match changed quickly. Grever served two aces during a seven-point run. McKenna Brady and Kate Wagner had blocks during the stretch, and Isabella Amet and McKenna Brady both had kills. The Mustangs outscored the Firestorm 11-1 to go up 15-5. Arizona Christian won two points on Sydney Wade blocks, but TMU ended the set with six straight points. Krista Brady served the final five, including three aces, the last of which closed the set 25-10.

The second set was more even early, but not for long. The Mustangs took the lead at 2-1 and kept it the rest of the way, hitting .414 in the set. Hale served an ace in a 3-0 run that put TMU ahead 11-5. Later, Kollmann had three straight kills with Amet serving, part of a 5-0 run that made it 21-11. Two straight Firestorm attack errors gave the Mustangs a 2-0 lead in the match.

The third set opened with Hale serving 14 straight points. She served four aces in the run. Kollmann had five kills during it, and Grever helped on two blocks. Arizona Christian used both of its timeouts before winning a point, and TMU led 14-0 by then. The Firestorm got only eight points in the set. Hale finished the match with her sixth ace, ending the set 25-8.

Hale had a strong all-around match: six aces, a match-high 20 digs, and four assists from the back row. Grever was efficient at the net, with eight kills, no errors on 11 swings (.727), two aces and three block assists, for 11.5 points. Krista Brady added six kills on .400 hitting with no errors, plus three aces and two block assists. Wagner ran the offense with 26 assists and added seven digs and a solo block. Amet had four kills and seven digs, and McKenna Brady had three kills and 1.5 blocks.

The Lady Mustangs will play two non-conference matches in Indiana next. They face Indiana Wesleyan on Monday, Oct. 12, at 3 p.m. in Marion, then play Indiana University Kokomo on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 3 p.m. TMU returns to GSAC play on Saturday, Oct. 17, at Hope International.
