On a sunny and warm afternoon in Santa Clarita, Calif., The Master's beach volleyball team hosted their first match of the 2025 season Tuesday, gaining a 3-2 win over No. 9 Hope International on the TMU Beach Volleyball Courts.
The Mustangs (4-1), ranked No. 6 in the NAIA Preseason Top 10 Poll, picked up wins from their 2s, 3s and 4s pairs.
"It definitely wasn't the day we were hoping for," said TMU Head Coach
Annett Davis. "Though I am thankful that the Lord allowed us to win."
The No. 2 pair of
Faith Wada and
Zoe Yates won 21-12, 21-8;Â
Grace Colburn and
Violet Avila, the No. 3 team, won 24-22, 21-16; and the No. 4 duo of
Ashlyn Unruh and
Isabela Rodriguez took care of business 21-6, 21-11.
The No. 1s of
Annika Gudnason and
Evi Roberts took their match to three sets 18-21, 21-15, 13-15 before falling. The pair of
Ellie Niehus and
Ellie Unruh fell in two.
"The good news is that we have work to do and this group loves to continue to work hard to improve," Davis said. "That in itself is a blessing for a coach, and a team."
The Sandy Stangs will have a pair of matches on Friday when they host Southern Oregon and Cal State LA for a tri-match. TMU will play No. 8 Southern Oregon at 11 a.m. and NCAA Division II Cal State LA at 3 p.m. at the TMU Beach Volleyball Courts.
