Jack Anderson took home the individual crown as the Master's University men's cross country team won their 16th straight GSAC title, with the TMU women also winning in a dramatic one-point victory Friday in Glendale, Ariz.
Senior
Jack Anderson won his third straight GSAC title Friday, covering the 8000m course in 24:26, over 20 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Anderson will be in the hunt for TMU's first cross country individual title since John Gilbertson in 2012.Â
"All I can say is that I'm grateful,"
Jack Anderson said. "I'm grateful that God blessed me with another conference title. I'm grateful for my teammates. I'm grateful for Jesus Christ who gives me strength in all things."
Emmanuel De Leon (24:53) placed third, giving the No.1-ranked Mustangs a much needed low stick in the team battle with Embry-Riddle and
Isaiah Fastrup (25:26) came through in fifth place overall as TMU's third man. But the Mustangs got a stellar performance out of senior Tim Anderson, who emerged as the team's fourth runner with a 25:30 mark to seal the team title.
"It is evident today that the success was by the grace of God," Tim Anderson said. "Whatever strength was seen in my performance or the performance of my teammates was a God-given gift."
TMU scored just 23 points and averaged 25:09 after a long travel day the previous afternoon and did so without their top runner from the last two meets,
Brogan Collins. TMU had five men earn All-GSAC honors including Anderson, De Leon, Fastrup, Anderson and
Hunter Roy, who finished eighth overall.
The Master's will race next at the NAIA Championships in Tallahassee, Fla. on November 21.
