Lady Mustangs earn 5-set road win

The Master's women's volleyball team were taken to a fifth set by the Benedictine Mesa Redhawks, prevailing in Arizona to get the 5-set win.

After winning the first two sets 25-21, 25-19, BenU came back to claim the next two 19-25, 17-25 to force a fifth set.

Behind six kills from Bella Amet, the Lady Mustangs were able to power through the final frame 15-10 to grab the 3-2 victory.

"The fifth set was an awesome response to a tough night," said TMU Head Coach McKenna Hafner. "Everyone stepped up, demonstrated grit, and did their jobs better. That was the difference maker."

Middle blockers McKenna and Krista Brady were a force both offensively and defensively. The sister duo combined for 26 kills while also providing an impenetrable wall with seven blocks.

"Our middles were great the whole night and worked hard to get available," Hafner said. "I love seeing that because we've been talking about that a lot."

As a team TMU hit .181 and took the advantage in kills (64-61) and blocks (8-6). The Redhawks serving proved strong with five aces compared to The Master's two.

Amet led the attack with a career-high 19 kills and hit a team-high .314 for the match. Krista Brady had 14 followed by McKenna Brady's 12 and Kinsley Kollman's 10. Kate Wagner dished 53 assists while Sierra Hale anchored the back row with 25 digs.

"Every match we get to be challenged, adapt, and find new ways to win, and come out on top,"  "I'm happy. It's nice when it's easy, but we learn more when it's hard. This group has a lot of grit and I'm grateful I get to coach them."

The Master's will travel to Gilbert, Ariz. on Saturday to take on the Buccaneers of Park-Gilbert. First serve is scheduled for noon.
