The No. 11-ranked Master's women's volleyball team swept the Park-Gilbert Buccaneers 25-18, 25-17, 25-20 Saturday in Mesa, Ariz.
The Lady Mustangs (13-2, 6-1) hit .294 in the 3-set sweep, committing 13 errors. TMU won the kills battle (48-25), blocks (6-3) and service aces (8-5).
"I'm glad we got the job done, and the fact that our whole travel roster got the chance to contribute to that win," said TMU Head Coach
McKenna Hafner. "It's a good feeling as a coach that we can put anyone in from the bench and be confident in the level being maintained."
The tone was established in the very first set when Master's opened up a 6-1 lead. And despite a couple of runs from the Buccaneers, the Lady Mustangs were able to get as much as an 8-point lead before taking the first set by seven.
The second set saw Park-Gilbert take a 6-5 lead and then either tying the score or grabbing a 1-point lead until midway through the set. After tying it 14-14, TMU went on an 8-1 run to push the score to 22-15. From there the teams traded scores before a service ace from
Kirsten Mullins settled the set in favor of Master's.
The final set saw the Lady Mustangs open up leads of four to five points. The Buccaneers got to within two at 19-17, but again TMU closed out on a strong 6-3 run to take the final set and win the match in three.
Macy Gebhards, Bella Amet and
Krista Brady all had 10 kills each to lead TMU. Brady added four blocks while
Kate Wagner tallied 22 assists and
Cassidy Clark contributed 18 dimes.
"This game definitely revealed we have lot more training to do," Hafner said. "But we're excited to get back home and continue to put in the work to accomplish our big team goals."
The Master's will next face Life Pacific in San Dimas, Calif. on Thursday, with the match scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
