Sandy Stangs fall to Golden Eagles on Senior Day

The rain stopped and the sun came out at game time, but the clouds hung over The Master's beach volleyball team as they lost 2-3 to the CSULA Golden Eagles Saturday at the TMU Beach Volleyball Courts.

Errors cost the team at critical times during the match.

"It's like we get to a point and then we fall a little short," said TMU Head Coach Annett Davis. "So I think we need to dig a little deeper and clean up our game just a little bit. It's just tiny little fixes that I think we need to make and then we can beat teams like [CSULA]."

The No. 2 pair of Faith Wada and Zoe Yates won their match 21-19, 24-22. The Sandy Stangs other win came from the No. 3 pair of Breanna Brooks and Isabella Rodriguez, winning 21-12, 21-12.

Two of TMU's pairs took their matches to three sets before falling. The No. 1 pair of Evi Yates and Annika Booker split their first sets 24-22, 13-21. The decisive third set had to go beyond 15 before the Golden Eagles' team won 18-16.

The No. 5 pair of Ellie Unruh and Emma Winter also split their first two sets 21-17, 14-21, before CSULA's pair was able to get the final set 15-13.

"We need to figure out how we can focus a little bit more and just be in the moment with every single ball and every touch," Davis said. "Sometimes we just run around too much. We need to really slow down. If we can do that, we'll have more ball control and win more matches."

Before the match the team and fans honored Breanna Brooks, the only graduating senior on the team. Her parents and sister were with her for the celebration.

The Master's will next play on Wednesday, April 3 at home against Hope International. The winner of that match will likely be moving on to the GSAC post-season tournament. First serve is scheduled for noon.
