The Master's beach volleyball team travelled to Bakersfield Saturday for three matches against NCAA Division I teams. And while the results were less than favorable, the competition was strong.
The Sandy Stangs lost to the CSU-Bakersfield Roadrunners 2-3, the University of San Francisco Dons 1-4, and the Concordia University of Irvine Eagles 0-5.
Despite the three losses, TMU's No. 1 pairing of
Evi Yates and
Annika Booker had a strong showing, winning two of their three matches. Against CSU-Bakersfield, Yates and Booker won 21-19, 17-21, 15-9. The pairing also got the only win against the Dons, 21-16, 19-21, 15-12.
The Master's other match win came from the No. 2 pair of
Zoe Yates and
Faith Wada. The team won their match 21-18, 21-7 against their Roadrunner counterparts.
The match against the Dons was actually closer than the score would indicate. While four of the five pairs lost their matches, each in two sets, not a single set was lost by more than five points.
The Master's beach volleyball team will next host Cal State Los Angeles this Saturday. It will be Senior Day, with the Sandy Stangs lone senior --
Breanna Brooks -- honored before the 11 a.m. start.
