Box Score The Master's men's volleyball team took the short trip to Northridge to take on NCAA Division I CSUN, leaving with a three-set win.
Despite the fact that the Matadors, ranked No. 16 in the NCAA, had more kills (48-36), more aces (2-1) and more blocks (5-2), it was TMU, ranked No. 1 in the NAIA, that came away with the 25-20, 25-23, 25-18 victory.
"The team played really solid all the way around tonight," said TMU Head Coach
Jared Goldberg. "CSUN was a very physical team and our guys did a good job making some critical stops and continued to side out the entire match."
The Mustangs (6-0) had a slight advantage in hitting (.362-.359), committing just eight hitting errors. And while the Matadors had one more ace, they also committed 26 hitting errors compared to the Mustangs' 10.
Braden Van Groningen led TMU with 10 kills, followed by
Diego Perez with nine and
Isaac Seltzer with seven.
Matthew Hamm got the start at setter, dishing 32 assists in the three-set win.
The Master's will hit the road again on Saturday when they travel to Irvine to take on Concordia University of Irvine. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
"The team is enjoying the win right now, but quickly refocusing to another challenging match tomorrow against Concordia Irvine," Goldberg said.
