Box Score After winning the first, The Master's men's volleyball team dropped the final three sets to Concordia University of Irvine to lose their first match of the 2024 season.
The Mustangs (6-1) hit .400 in that first set, winning it 25-20. But the Eagles flipped the script in the second, going on to win 20-25, 18-25, 21-25.
"Tonight our offense struggled to be as efficient as we have been most of the year against a scrappy CUI team," said TMU Head Coach
Jared Goldberg. "We faced a lot more service pressure tonight and weren't able to make the stops we needed to late in the game."
Committing two attack errors in that first set, TMU had 18 over the final three, averaging six per set in those losses.
Overall, CUI had more kills (50-41), service aces (7-5) and blocks (12-9) than The Master's. The Eagles also finished with a .313 hitting percentage to The Master's .196.
Isaac Seltzer led the Mustangs with 12 kills, followed by both
Will Avera and
Mason Mullins getting seven each.
Matthew Hamm delivered 38 assists, while Avera and Seltzer lead the team with five blocks.
The Master's will have their home opener in The MacArthur Center on Wednesday as they try to fall in love with the win column again. First serve against Westcliff will be at 7 p.m.
"It's a great learning lesson and test for our team as we have an upcoming run of tough NAIA teams," Goldberg said. "We are looking forward to finally playing in front of a home crowd."
