Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Dave Caldwell, Sports Information Director

Women's soccer falls in championship game

The Master's women's soccer team made it to the GSAC championship game for the first time in program history, but the trophy will have to wait as the Mustangs lost to the Embry-Riddle Eagles 2-1 Wednesday in Prescott, Ariz.

The defense was stout for both teams, with the Eagles taking seven shots and the Mustangs six. Five of TMU's six shots were on goal, but only one by Hannah Kopp was able to find the back of the net.

"Unfortunate loss for our girls as the team played good enough to have won the game," said TMU Head Coach Esteban Chavez. "I'm glad it hurts because that means we felt we could've won the game. Embry-Riddle is an outstanding team, and I'm not saying we are better, but the girls played good enough, created opportunities and fought hard enough to have been able to end up on top."

The Eagles got on the board 7:30 into the game when Scarlett Frohardt scored off an assist from Sophie Bohan. The score stayed 1-0 through the first half with both teams getting four shots in the first 45 minutes.

Nearly 14 minutes into the second half, it was Frohardt again, this time off an assist from Adelie Zechmann, to extend the lead to 2-0. It wasn't until the 88th minute that Kopp was able to score the 19th goal of her career.

For Kopp, as well as for Alyssa Luna, Lauren Park, Bekah Micu, Kate Merical, Mary Mobley and Jess Furr, it was the final time to wear The Master's women's soccer jersey.

"The program has made big strides this season by making it to the program's first ever final of the conference tournament," Chavez said. "I am very proud of the team and coaching staff."
