Adiel Kaduya scored three goals and
Alexis Garcia added another as The Master's men's soccer team defeated Life Pacific Saturday 4-1 in a game played at Citrus College in Glendora, Calif.
Â
The Mustangs stay undefeated and in first place in the GSAC at 6-0-2.
Â
"It was nice to get an early 3-0 lead but we kind of played tentative from then on," said TMU Head Coach Jim Rickard. "But the fourth goal was key and we defended pretty well. Life Pacific is better than their record and they move the ball well. We just tried to stay focused on staying behind the ball and hope to separate with some more scoring. At the end of the day we did what we needed to do and will move on."
Â
The first goal of the game came just 2:03 into the contest when
Prince Chingancheke took a pass at midfield, worked around a defender and found himself in open space. He moved the ball 20 yards ahead before passing to Kaduya, who blasted a shot from 25 yards out that skipped over the keeper and into the net.
Â
The second goal came in the 10
th minute off a throw in the Warriors' zone by
Braden Krusey. The ball was first headed by an LPU defender, then deflected off the foot of Chingancheke up into the air in front of
Alexis Garcia, who bicycle-kicked the ball past the diving keeper into the upper-right corner of the net.
Â
Less than four minutes later, defender
Bradley Cheney stole a pass and sent the ball forward to Garcia at midfield, who in turn punched it forward to a streaking Kaduya. The freshman from Malawi then turned on the speed to go one-on-one with the keeper, shooting the ball past him to the left and inside the far post for his second goal of the game.
Â
After giving up a goal in the 17
th minute that made it 3-1, the two teams traded a few shots but took that score into the locker room at the half.
Â
Kaduya's third goal of the game had to wait until 15:12 remained in the game.
Walker Buck worked his way with the ball to the middle of the field before passing the ball off to Kaduya about 20 yards away from the goal. He then collected the ball 10 yards out and launched a shot off his right foot that found the back right corner of the net to make it 4-1.
Â
TMU had a 14-8 advantage in shots over the Warriors, with six of those 14 on goal.
Â
In addition to the three goals, Kaduya added an assist, with Garcia, Chingancheke, Krusey and Buck getting assists as well.
Â
"I am grateful for the way we've competed since our poor start," Rickard said after the team's 0-4 non-conference start to the season. "I'm really proud of how this team has come together. The games only get harder, but this team gives their best."
Â
The Master's will be back in Arizona next week for a pair of GSAC games. First will be against Park-Gilbert on Thursday night at 8 p.m. followed by a Saturday 11:30 a.m. start against Benedictine Mesa.
