It was a tough ask at the end of the tournament to go against the No. 3 team in the country, but that's what The Master's did, losing 20-25, 10-25, 12-25 to Northwestern College (IA) in Sioux City, Iowa, Saturday.
The Raiders attack proved too strong (39-22), harder serves (10-1 in aces), and put up a bigger block (10-2). The Lady Mustangs hit .009 for their 111 attacks, getting the 22 kills but committing 21 hitting errors.
"Northwestern was excellent on offense and defense," said TMU Head Coach Annett Davis. "Easy to see why they are one of the best teams in the nation. We played them one set very well, and then our mistakes just killed our momentum."
McKenna Brady had seven kills followed by
Faith Tarver's five and
Breanna Brooks with four. Tarver and
Sierra Hale each had 12 digs, with
Timberlie Miller dishing 18 assists.
The Master's went 1-3 in the tournament, losing against three teams ranked in the NAIA Top 25.
"My hope is that we learned some good lessons," Davis said. "And this trip definitely showed us where we need to improve mentally and emotionally in order to be able to return to Iowa for nationals."
The Master's will now get a bit of a break from competition before GSACÂ matches begin. The Lady Mustangs will host Life Pacific this Friday, Sep. 8 with first serve scheduled for 6 p.m.
