The Master's got their first win of the CSM/United Sports Academy Classic, defeating Evangel University (MO) 25-22, 25-19, 25-20 Saturday in Sioux City, Iowa.
The Mustangs (9-3) hit .182 for the match, with
Ruby Duncan collecting 11 kills and
Faith Tarver adding seven.
"We played with more energy and a little more urgency this morning which is something we want to improve on," said Head Coach Annett Davis. "
Faith Tarver defensively did a great job blocking and digging. And Bre Brooks came alive hitting well and scoring with her blocking as well."
Brooks led the team with four blocks and added six kills while Tarver led the team with 14 digs and finished with three blocks.
TMU fell behind in the first set by as much as five (12-7), but closed the set with an 18-10 advantage.
The second set saw the Valor again jump out to a five-point lead, only to see the Lady Mustangs again wrestle away momentum control and finish out the set on a 20-9 difference.
The third set stayed closer longer, before once again the Mustangs asserted their will. After the score was tied at 16-16, TMU went on an 8-1 run to take it to match point, eventually prevailing to win by five.
Timberlie Miller finished with 32 assists and Brroke Scott landed three of the Lady Mustangs' five service aces.
One last match to be played in this Iowa tournament, as next The Master's face No. 3 Northwestern College (IA) at 3 p.m. PT.
