For the second consecutive match Friday, The Master's women's volleyball team lost in straight sets, this time to No. 17 Jamestown.
The Lady Mustangs (8-3) initially battled the Jimmies, which won the NAIA National Championship last season and started the season as the No. 1-ranked team on the NAIA Top 25 poll, before falling 25-27, 14-25, 19-25.
TMU had their worst hitting match of the season (.009), committing 22 hitting errors in the three sets.
In the first set, The Master's jumped out to a 13-8 lead, only to see the Jimmies go on a 7-2 run to tie it at 15-15. The two teams swapped the lead back and forth, but with the score tied 25-25, Jamestown was able to secure the final two points to win 27-25.
The two teams traded blows again to start the second set, but after it was tied 5-5, the Jimmies jumped out to a 15-10 lead off consistent hitting from their attackers. TMU got to within two at 15-13, but Jamestown closed out the set on a 10-1 run to win by 11.
Four times this season the Lady Mustangs have come from behind and forced a five-set match, winning all four. And the start of the third set had that feeling once again as TMU jumped out to a 7-1 lead including two service aces by
Ruby Duncan. But Jamestown successfully flipped the script, tying the match at 15-15 and pulling away for the six-point set win to clinch the match.
Freshman
McKenna Brady led the Lady Mustangs with seven kills as well as a team-high six blocks. Duncan finished with six kills and the two aces, withÂ
Faith Tarver getting five kills.
Sierra Hale tallied 20 digs and
Timberlie Miller dished 17 assists.
Saturday morning The Master's will take on Evangel University (MO) at 11 a.m. PT, followed by No. 3 Northwestern College (IA) at 3 p.m. PT.
