Another comeback win for Lady Mustangs

For the third time in five matches, The Master's University women's volleyball team came from behind to win in five sets, this time defeating Northwest (WA) University in the first match of the HIU Summer Slam in Fullerton, Calif.
 
The Lady Mustangs (4-1) won the first set (26-16), lost the next two (19-25, 13-25), but came back to win the next two 25-21, 15-11.

"This was a match that we should have been in control, (but) we were just unsteady," said Head Coach Annett Davis. "Thankfully, the girls dug a little deeper and started playing a more consistent game, passing and serving better."
 
After tying the match 2-2 by winning the fourth set 25-21, TMU opened up a 12-6 lead in game five. But the Eagles would not roll over, getting five of the next six points to get within two at 13-11. After The Master's called a timeout, the Lady Mustangs took advantage of a Northwest attack error before Faith Tarver secured the match with a kill on match point.
 
Ruby Duncan led TMU with 16 kills followed by Cora Machado with 12 and Tarver collecting eight. Duncan's serve once again proved lethal as she tallied four aces in the match, giving her a total of 15 in the first five matches. Janae Henderson led the team with three blocks.
 
Despite getting the win, the Lady Mustangs hit a season-low .040 with a season-high 37 attack errors.
 
After a quick break The Master's Lady Mustangs will be back on the floor in Fullerton Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. PT as they take on The College of Idaho.
