It just wasn't the Mustangs' night.
Arizona Christian erupted for eight runs in the third inning and tacked on an other six in the ninth as The Master's was eliminated from the GSAC Baseball Championship Tournament with a 16-2 loss.
The Master's were only able to muster four base hits and were struck out 15 times by Firestorm pitchers.
TMU starter
Ian Mortensen gave up six earned runs on six hits in 2.0 innings. He was followed on the mound by
Ethan Schmidt,
Aren Gustafson,
Cale Mathison,
Adler Stout and Jojo Penberthy.
"They just had the big inning, and that really put us in a tough spot," said Head Coach
Monte Brooks."I liked Adler's outing and I liked Cale's outing. It was good to see them throw well against a good-hitting club."
After spotting the Firestorm two runs in the second inning, the Mustangs (31-16) responded with a run in the bottom of the second when
Will Batz hit a sacrifice fly to center that scored
Ty Beck. TMU wouldn't score again until the fifth when
Davis Beavers doubled down the left field line to drive in
Miles Henderson.
The Master's, a team receiving votes in the final NAIA Top 25 poll of the year, waits to hear if their name will be called as an at-large entry in the NAIA National Baseball Championship Opening Round that begins on Monday, May 15 at one of ten campus sites across the country. The Selection Show will be held on Thursday, May 11, at 2 p.m. PT.
